• VQ Aldgate - London

Abbey have worked alongside interior designers Busby Webb in furnishing three VQ restaurants – Aldgate, Euston Square and Bloomsbury. At Aldgate, VQ had the opportunity to open a new café, restaurant and bar on the ground floor of the new Dorsett Hotel. BusbyWebb developed a premium design to fit neatly with the hotel’s aesthetic, introducing darker walnut and burgundy tones to provide a classic yet modern interior. Abbey provided the full loose and fixed furniture package and developed a number of unique items including bespoke tables, cabinets and bench seating.

Aldgate is VQ’s first 24-hour restaurant providing an all day service to the Dorsett Hotel and passers-by. With such high usage, particular care was taken in the selection of products, fabrics and finishes to ensure optimum strength and durability whilst maintaining a natural and appealing look. Chairs were upholstered in soft aniline leathers and table tops finished with ceramic tiling and hardwood. Bespoke table frames were manufactured with an industrial hot rolled steel finish and feature channel profiles that intersected with the character oak table tops.

In their first year, Aldgate has far outreached its expected success, with sales 72% ahead of their budgeted first year revenue. In 2018, the restaurant was also shortlisted for Best Restaurant in a Hotel at the Restaurant & Bar Awards 2018.

Abbey were delighted to work with commercial interior specialists BusbyWebb (www.busbywebb.co.uk) on this project.

I would like to say a huge thank you for your amazing leadership and patience, and of course the whole Abbey team throughout the project and for simply ‘making it happen’. Often without us even knowing it needed to ‘happen’.

Once again, THANK YOU and I look forward to working with you and the team in 2024.
